Honour for Founding Directors

Congratulations to Peter Connolly and Arthur Morgan on the great honour they received at the 2010 Newry Business Awards Ceremony.

Both Peter and Arthur were presented with an award recognising their 'Outstanding Contribution to the Greater Newry Area' .  The richly deserved Award was in recognition of the 47 years voluntary service they have given to Newry Credit Union since they were first involved in the establishment of the Credit Union in 1963.

Much credit must go to Arthur and Peter for their vision and commitment in not just being involved in the establishment of the Credit Union, but for serving as Directors of the Credit Union for the past 47 years. 

Well done Peter and Arthur - once again you've made our Credit Union family very proud!

Fantastic Day at Arts and Craft Awards!

A big thank you must go out to the boys and girls from Rathore, St Joseph's Primary and The Abbey Special Unit for the outstanding arts and crafts they produced for the Annual Credit Union Arts and Crafts Awards held in Rathore School on Friday 11th June.

Everyone had a fantastic day and both the magician in the morning and the disco in the afternoon were a huge hit with the children. Many thanks to the staff and carers from the participating schools who make the day such a great success and of course thanks to Rathore School for once again hosting the event in their fabulous school.

The arts and crafts produced by the children will go on display in the Credit Union by Tuesday 15th June. Make sure you get a chance to call in and see them!

Newry Credit Union Features in Irish Daily Star!

The Irish Daily Star has been running six weeks of articles highlighting the great advantages of Credit Union Membership.

Each week they have highlighted a Credit Union and on Monday 31st May it was the turn of Newry Credit Union. 

Brendan Jackson, General Manager of Newry Credit Union was delighted that Newry was one of the featured Credit Unions. 'It's an honour to be one of the 6 Credit Unions chosen, particulary when you consider there are 521 Credit Unions in Ireland. It's a real indication of the high esteem that Newry Credit Union is held in. New Guarantor Procedures

As a financial co-operative, every loan that Newry Credit Union pays out comes from money that has been saved from our Members, and so we have always taken the business of granting loans very seriously. 

About 10% of our loans require a guarantor - someone who is effectively saying they will take over the loan if payments are defaulted on.

This is a huge undertaking and to reflect this we have introduced new procedures which require the proposed guarantor to complete a form providing financial details on themselves. They will also have to agree to be credit searched. 

Only when all the information has been received and the proposed guarantor agreed by Credit Committee can a loan be paid out.
