Newry Credit Union Features on UTV's 'Insight' |
|
Newry Credit Union was recently delighted to fly the flag for the entire Credit Union movement when they took part in UTV’s Insight current affairs programme which focused on the spiralling debt crises in Northern Ireland, a crisis which has seen personal debts increase by £1million every 5 minutes.
We were initially approached to take part in the programme because of the Money Management Programme which we launched in April 2005, a service we established in response to the large number of our Members who were contacting us for assistance with debts that they could no longer afford. As you would expect, Credit and Store card debts featured prominently among these debts, but there was also a worrying trend with a significant number of Members admitting to debts to doorstep lenders.
Rita Copas, our Money Management Councillor, represented Newry Credit Union on the Insight programme and outlined the key difficulties people with escalating debts have and how Newry Credit Union can help. A Member of the Credit Union who is currently on our Money Management programme, very bravely agreed to go public with her experiences and spoke positively about how Newry Credit Union had been able to help.
Since the Insight programme aired Rita has been inundated with Members seeking her assistance. Once again Newry Credit Union has shown how the financial welfare of our Members is our highest priority.
