The Board of Directors and Management of Newry Credit Union were delighted to welcome Labour Peer, Lord Dubs to a meeting in the Credit Union to discuss the legislative changes that are needed to enable Newry Credit Union to offer an expanded range of services to its Members.
For some time now Newry Credit Union has been campaigning to offer the additional services of a Current Account, Mini Cash ISA’s and the Child Trust Fund to its 16,000 Members. At the moment, although Credit Unions operating in England, Scotland and Wales can offer these services, Credit Unions in Northern Ireland cannot.
Following a very positive meeting, Newry Credit Union is hopeful that Lord Dubs will act as an Advocate in Westminster in campaigning to get the necessary legislative changes pushed through. Jim Mc Ardle, President of Newry Credit Union said ‘Newry Credit Union simply wants to offer its Members the widest range of services it can, particularly since unlike other financial organisations we are seeking not to profit from our Members, but to provide a range of transparent and cost effective financial services to them.’
